AWDA 2015

RULE





Aiap Women in Design Award (AWDA), in its second edition, is a biennial Award that will appeal to the designers of visual communication.


CATEGORIES AWARD

The Award includes the following four categories:

1. Professional Category
Visual Communication Designers
May enter this category: owners of professional firms, professionals, employees of the studio, freelance, collective. For employees and freelancers a release form, signed and stamped by the study / agency / owner certifying the intellectual property of the project presented, must be attached to the project.

2. Research and Training Category
Teachers, Researchers, Scholars, Theoreticians
May enter this category: University, High Schools, Public and/or Private Institutions Professors and Researchers, scholars who have focused their research on issues of visual communication.

3. Teaching Category
Students
May enter this category: students who have completed their studies by not more than two years, students still attending colleges or Public and/or Private University, specialist schools, PhD, who have in their curriculum teaching visual communication projects, dissertations, research projects.
The students will participate to this category don’t have to pay submission fee.

4. Lifetime Achievement Category
This Award is a “cameo” that Aiap wants to assign to those designers who have distinguished themselves in the course of their career in professional activity or for contributing authoritatively to the reflections on the design culture. It can also be understood as an Award to the memory.
The Award of this prize is at the discretion of the jury, which will eventually select a designer or author among the applications received in the other three categories of the award.


HOW TO REGISTER
The prize is subject to a subscription, to be made directly on the site, in the upload area, filling in all the fields mentioned, together with the payment of a small fee and the sending of the requested materials. Please remember that it isn't allowed to send a number exceeding three submissions.


SUBMISSION FEE
Please note that there are no additional fees for winner and selected projects.

Designer (NON Aiap members)
1 submission = 61 € 
2 submissions = 98 € 
3 submissions = 146 € 

Designer (Aiap members)
1 submission = 20 € 
2 submissions = 30 € 
3 submissions = 50 € 

The fee paid is unique and there will be no required payments for additional fees for winner and selected projects.
It is not allowed to send a number exceeding three submissions.


HOW TO PAY SUBMISSION FEE

Submission fees must be made by bank transfer to Aiap (all details below).
Please specify in the object of bank transfer:
AWDA, your name, number of projects submitted.
Please don't forget to send an e-mail to aiap@aiap.it with attached a copy of the wire transfer.

WHAT TO SEND
To participate to the Award it’s necessary, following the registration and payment of the fee, to send PDF files loaded in the upload area, following all the instructions. The designers will prepare materials according to the procedures and forms which they consider most appropriate. Each designer must explain the category or categories for which intends to compete. 
Please remember that it is not allowed to send a number exceeding three submissions in total for each designer (belonging to the same or to different categories).

1. category profession
The designer can send a maximum of three projects, one of which may be a self-production. Each project must be shown in a single PDF document, A3 or any other format, for up to 10 pages (the single PDF must not weigh more than 5 Mb). The author must indicate for each project the complete credits (colophon), a brief description of its business portfolio design, a short profile (biography), its own portrait and all useful contacts (email, website,...), following all the instructions. The official language will be English. Projects described in languages other than the official ones are not eligible. If employees of studies / agencies, or free-lance, the designer must attach the project release form, signed and stamped by the owner of the study / agency, certifying the intellectual property of the project presented.

2. category research and training
The designer can send a maximum of three documented research projects. Each project must be shown in a single PDF document, A3 or any other format, for up to 10 pages (the single PDF must not weigh more than 5 Mb). The author must indicate for each project the complete credits (colophon), a brief description of its business portfolio design, a short profile (biography), its own portrait and all useful contacts (email, website,...), following all the instructions. The official language will be English. Projects described in languages other than the official ones are not eligible.

3. class teaching
The designer can send a maximum of three educational projects, among which may be included the thesis, examinations, results of seminars, workshops. Each project must be shown in a single PDF document, A3 or any other format, for up to 10 pages (the single PDF must not weigh more than 5 Mb). The author must indicate for each project the complete credits (colophon), a brief description of its business portfolio design, a short profile (biography), its own portrait and all useful contacts (email, website,...), following all the instructions. The official language will be English. Projects described in languages other than the official ones are not eligible.


HOW TO SUBMIT
The PDFs for AWDA (AIAP Women in Design Award) second edition in 2015 will have to be uploaded through the site AWDA by filling in all the parts of the application form online, after payment of the fee, registration and entering the user name ID and password provided by the system.
The Aiap members will be able to access the application process with their user name and password (if in need, contact the Aiap secretary, aiap@aiap.it).
The other participants will log-in to application processes with a user name and a password that will be sent after the registration process.
There will be no distinction by the jury among the Aiap candidates and the non-Aiap candidates in the selection of the projects. PDFs uploaded will not be altered in any way and the upload will be possible until the close of the call.
Applications and online presentations will be available to the jury, which will identify the rose of candidates worthy of publication in the volume AWDA 2015 and among these, the first Aiap Women in Design Award in 2015 and mentions. The designers selected will be contacted by the secretariat for the Aiap request to send useful material for publication, specifying the method of sending.
In the AWDA website’s upload area it will be possible to register and upload the projects.


DISCLAIMER
A project is excluded from the competition:
a) if received after 24.00 on Tuesday, October 20 2015
b) if it does not comply with the notice
c) if uploaded without signing up and without paying the relative amount of the fee


PROTECTION
Aiap is responsible for the security of all projects and works received and the confidentiality of information by ensuring that the website’s upload area is a private area and that the access is permitted only to the members of the jury.


JURY
The international jury is composed as follows: Majid Abbasi, Iva Babaja, Yesim Demir, Cinzia Ferrara, Laura Moretti.
The opinion of the jury’s decisions is final. Any decision will be taken by a majority of members of the jury, which will have the task of motivating the choices and drawing up a special report on the conduct of the overall competition, indicating in particular, the reasons related to the allocation of Awards.
A copy of the report will be filed in the office Aiap and put on-line on the AWDA website.


USE OF THE SUBMITTED PROJECTS
All pdf submitted are considered publishable. Aiap right to use them in whole or in part, in the work of selection, to reproduce in whole or in part in Aiap editions’ publications, Aiap’s websites and related online tools, communications to the media about events connected with the publication of the volumes and any exhibit related to the AWDA Award.
The authors agree that all the materials (text and images) to be freely adjusted according to the communication needs of the various instruments used, freeing Aiap any liability for any violation of third party rights.


TIMING
The publication of the notice: Monday, August 31, 2015.
The deadline for uploading material: until 24.00 on Tuesday, October 20 2015.
The announcement of winners and selected projects will take place in the official Award-giving ceremony, during Aiap DX, International Graphic Design Week, to be held in Milan, Italy on Wednesday, November 4 2015.
The secretariat Aiap will contact the selected designers who will then send, within a week, the files in high resolution for publication in the volume n2 AWDA.
The publication of the book will be official announced in the next months.
