The AWDA biennial award, at its first edition, is open to all visual communication women designers. The award originates within Aiap’s research activities, and aims at reconstructing and acknowledging the contribution that numerous visual communication women designers have given and continue to give to the universe of graphic design.
With AWDA, Aiap takes a further step in promoting the work of communication women designers. The process, which first started with the Manifestinno exhibition and the cycle of seminars Singolare Femminile – organised in collaboration with AIAP in Rome, had its official beginning with the Stanze contest, which was followed by the retrospective Il segno continuo dedicated to Simonetta Ferrante.
The award includes four categories, covering various phases in the educational and professional life of visual communication women designers and providing a comprehensive overview of projects in this area of design. The categories concern: profession, research and education/training, teaching, and career.
The jury will select the projects suitable for publication, and among them will identify those to be awarded a mention and the first Aiap Women in Design Award 2012. The official award-giving ceremony will take place during the next edition of Aiap Design Per, International Graphic Design Week, to be held in Treviso, Italy, from 26th to 29th September 2012.
The deadlines for the AWDA award are as follows: publication of the call, registration to be sent to Aiap secretariat, upload of the materials on the website. The Aiap secretariat will contact the selected women designers, who will be required to send high-resolution files for publication in the AWDA 2012 volume within a week.
Participants will upload the materials in the dedicated section of the AWDA website, filling in the online registration form after registering on the website and entering the username and password provided by the system. The uploaded materials cannot be modified or replaced, and the upload will be possible until the deadline set in the call.
